Why This Tour

Sometimes it takes a pandemic to make one reflect. While writing this I decided to tell others why I chose to come out of retirement. First, who ARE you? I am NOT the person as posted on a defunct dance studio owners’ website nor in the negative social media posts. You can read my resume on this website. Here are a few personal facts about me not covered on that page. I am a veteran studio owner and public educator both for over 20 years, who walks daily and works out via Zumba and jump rope classes. I did everything listed on the about section (my resume style bio), and more. I admit I am an over-achiever. I decided upon the anniversary of the death of my only sibling, that I needed to do two things, travel and share my knowledge accrued over a 50 year plus period with others.

As I was writing and planning this morning, a friend and I were talking about Google sending me alerts on my business, which is now one to ten times a day. Thank you to all who search for me, please continue to search for the JANN DAVIS COMPANY. My friend asked me what was on my LIFE LIST what I want to achieve before time runs out. I never made one but if I did it would be what is listed below. As stated above, I lost my only sibling, an older sister due to COVID, July 19, 2020. She lived in Colorado, me in Massachusetts, and we talked and texted daily. My heart still aches when I think of her. Saying good-bye via an iPad is never a good thing.

After discussing this, I decided I should write a personal bucket/life list and tour the USA as she and I had planned for a one-year period before the pandemic started. We followed road trips of others to national parks or fulfilling childhood dreams of visiting the well-known state capitols, or just traveling in a van for one year. Our plan was to travel via AMTRAK, stopping along the way as we traveled a route like one in John Steinbeck’s Travels with Charley, a favorite book for both of us. So ASDG Brand Dance Around America is coming to you this season beginning in March.

Our plan was to start in Portland Maine and travel the circumference of the USA for one-year. We wanted to visit NYC, see some shows, move on down the coast to the Jersey Shore, maybe Atlantic City, on to Virginia Beach, and end in Orlando by Thanksgiving for the first part of our trip. Since I am beginning in March, I am modifying this.

I was a “dance competition pioneer” beginning in 1977 with a once-a-year competition called the AMERICAN DANCE INVITATIONAL®, which at some point became a 6-week tour in New England. I discontinued the competition in 2006, when as a public educator, I had other obligations including attending graduate school. I did create the ORIGINAL adjudicated score system that is currently used globally by studio dance competitions in 1977. It is based on a bell curve used in education. The problem is to date there isn’t any defined criteria for evaluation of your routines, so many of you question the results in the competitions you enter. American Sport Dance Games® is my alternative to studio dance competitions, has a new OBJECTIVE score system, adjudicators are trained and credentialed for it, and convention instructors learn how to create classes using the six-level skill-based achievement-assessment system, each level has two modules. The new score system and weekly training program, DOMAIN DANCE allow dance educators to offer a new program for recruitment and retainment of students. A dance educator can OWN the new licensed program hold events for PROFIT as a VIP Member of AADI.
